Welcome to Sparring

Sparring is one of the most beneficial activities for personal growth and development in our curriculum. We take great care to present the correct level of challenge so that your child can succeed.

What Is Sparring?

Sparring is a type of martial arts partner practice. Students use a variety of offensive and defensive moves in a controlled, non-competitive, cooperative atomsphere where both partners can learn and benefit.

Why We Spar

  • Sparring improves martial arts skills like footwork, timing, distance and accuracy. Through sparring, students...

    1. Improve timing and distance against a moving target
    2. Develop the ability to react to realistic scenarios within the rules of sparring
    3. Learn accurate offensive and defensive moves

  • Students learn life skills like self-confidence, self-control, respect and courage. For example, students...

    1. Gain control of the body, mind and emotions
    2. Increase self-respect and confidence, as well as respect for others

What To Expect

  • A qualified instructor will supervise students during sparring
  • Sparring ranges in style and intensity, but participants should never go full force. Incidental contact should be expected. Students begin with zero contact. When they demonstrate sufficient control, they are permitted to make light contact.
  • Parents should encourage their children to follow the instructor's directions

Equipment

  • Camo belts and above must wear the following gear: Headgear, faceshield, mouthpiece, chestguard, gloves and footgear. Males must wear a groin cup.
  • Equipment must be complete, undamaged, free of improper parts or patching, and fitted properly
  • Always read and follow equipment manufacturers' instructions and warnings
  • When sparring is done responsibly and properly supervised, sparring equipment can serve as a guard against unintended contact
